Laboratory Infrastructure

Built for Every Strand of Learning

At Dunes Academy, practical knowledge is not an afterthought — it is woven into the timetable. Our six laboratories are individually designed, separately staffed, and stocked with the instruments students need to conduct real experiments, build genuine competence, and develop the analytical habits that examinations and careers demand.

Lab Standards

What Every Lab at Dunes Academy Offers

Each laboratory is held to the same baseline — purpose-built, safely managed, and actively used across every class level.

Dedicated Lab Periods

Separate timetable slots ensure practical sessions are never squeezed into theory time. Labs run regularly for all year groups.

Safety-First Environment

Fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, safety goggles, and trained lab assistants are in place in every science and chemistry workspace.

CBSE-Aligned Syllabus

Equipment lists and experiment rosters map directly to the NCERT practical curriculum for Classes VI–XII, covering every board-required activity.

Supervised by Trained Staff

Each lab has a subject-specialist teacher and a trained lab assistant present during every session, guiding students and maintaining records.

Practical Records Maintained

Every experiment is documented in individual practical notebooks, reviewed by teachers, and counted towards internal assessment scores.

Regular Equipment Upgrades

Lab inventories are reviewed each session. Outdated or damaged instruments are replaced so students always work with reliable, accurate equipment.

Science · Class IX–XII

Physics Laboratory

The Physics Laboratory bridges the gap between formula and reality. Students measure acceleration under gravity, trace ray diagrams through actual prisms, assemble circuits, and verify laws that textbooks merely describe. Instruments are individually calibrated and maintained by the lab assistant each term.

  • Mechanics apparatus — masses, pulleys, inclined planes, spring balances
  • Optics — prisms, convex and concave lenses, ray-box kits
  • Electricity — multimeters, rheostats, resistance boards, galvanometers
  • Wave and sound demonstration sets
  • Vernier callipers, screw gauges, and precision measuring tools
  • Dedicated lab for Classes IX–XII; exploratory demonstrations for VI–VIII

Science · Class IX–XII

Chemistry Laboratory

Our Chemistry Laboratory is designed around safety and rigour. Each workbench has independent gas, water, and drainage access. Reagents are stored in labelled, lockable cabinets and dispensed under teacher supervision. Fume extraction and fire-safety provisions meet CBSE norms for senior-school chemistry practicals.

  • Analytical-grade reagents for salt analysis, titration, and qualitative testing
  • Bunsen burners, water baths, and electric heating mantles
  • Glassware — beakers, flasks, burettes, pipettes, condensers
  • Balance room with precision digital balances
  • Safety goggles, gloves, and spill-response kits at every bench
  • Full NCERT Class XI and XII practical syllabus coverage

Science · Class VI–XII

Biology Laboratory

From onion-cell osmosis in Class VI to enzyme activity assays in Class XII, the Biology Laboratory supports a full twelve-year journey through life science. Prepared slides, botanical specimens, and anatomical models give students sensory access to structures that diagrams cannot convey.

  • Compound and dissecting microscopes with 40× to 400× magnification
  • Prepared slides — plant cells, animal cells, bacteria, mitosis stages
  • Botanical specimens — roots, stems, leaves, flowers, seeds
  • Anatomical models — human heart, eye, ear, torso, skeletal system
  • Dissection kits for Class XI–XII zoology practicals
  • Wall charts and 3D cell models for conceptual reinforcement

STEM · Class I–XII

Mathematics Laboratory

The Mathematics Laboratory was built on a single conviction: no child should find maths abstract. Tangrams, geo-boards, algebra tiles, fraction bars, and 3D geometry kits let students construct understanding at their own pace before moving to abstract notation. Weekly sessions are timetabled for all classes.

  • Number sense — place-value kits, Dienes blocks, number lines
  • Geometry — geo-boards, tangrams, compass sets, 3D shape kits
  • Algebra — expression tiles and function-machine manipulatives
  • Data and statistics boards for probability experiments
  • Puzzle and game corner to build problem-solving confidence
  • Activity books aligned to NCERT Lab Manual for Classes VI–X

Technology · Class I–XII

Computer Science Laboratory

Digital fluency is a core academic skill, not a co-curricular extra. The Computer Lab runs structured sessions from Class I through XII, progressing from basic keyboard literacy to Python programming, database fundamentals, and web development for senior students. High-speed internet access supports research and supervised online learning.

  • Updated workstations — one per student during practical sessions
  • Licensed operating systems and productivity software
  • Programming environments — Python, HTML/CSS, and CBSE-specified languages
  • High-speed broadband with supervised and filtered internet access
  • Printer and scanner access for project and presentation work
  • Separate practical examination slots for Classes X and XII board practicals

Language · Class I–XII

English Language Laboratory

Strong English — spoken and written — opens every door. The English Language Lab is a structured, activity-rich space where students listen to model speech, practise pronunciation, present to peers, and receive immediate teacher feedback. Daily sessions run for primary classes; weekly sessions for middle and senior school.

  • Audio-visual tools — projector, speakers, and curated listening resources
  • Group discussion circles structured around CBSE speaking-and-listening norms
  • Role-play and drama activities to build natural conversational fluency
  • Public speaking practice — prepared speeches, extempore, debate formats
  • Reading aloud sessions with fluency tracking by the English faculty
  • Interhouse competitions — debate, elocution, and quiz seeded from lab sessions

Common Questions

Laboratory FAQs

From which class do students begin using the science laboratories?
Basic science exploration begins in Class VI with supervised activities in the Biology and general science space. Formal, timetabled Physics, Chemistry, and Biology laboratory sessions begin in Class IX, aligned to the NCERT practical curriculum. Senior school students (Classes XI and XII) complete a full practical syllabus each session as part of their board examination assessment.
Are laboratory practicals part of the board examination marks?
Yes. For Classes X and XII, CBSE awards marks for internal assessment that includes practical work, practical records, and the viva. Our laboratory sessions are structured to ensure students are well-prepared for both the practical examination conducted at school and any external verification.
How is safety managed in the Chemistry and Physics labs?
Each session is supervised by both the subject teacher and a trained lab assistant. Students wear safety goggles and gloves for all chemical experiments. Reagents are dispensed only under supervision and stored in lockable cabinets. Fire extinguishers and first-aid kits are positioned at every lab entry point and checked monthly. Lab safety rules are taught at the start of each academic year and reviewed each term.
What is the Computer Lab's policy on internet access?
The Computer Lab has high-speed broadband with content-filtering software that blocks non-educational sites. Students access the internet only during supervised sessions and for purposes directly related to their current lesson or project. All browsing activity is logged and reviewed by the ICT coordinator.
Do the laboratories support competitive examinations like NTSE or Olympiads?
Yes. The Science and Mathematics labs are used for enrichment sessions that go beyond the standard CBSE syllabus, helping students preparing for NTSE, Science Olympiads, and Mathematics Olympiads. These sessions are scheduled after regular school hours and are open to interested students from Class VI onwards.
Is there a separate lab for junior classes (Nursery to Class V)?
Primary students (Nursery to Class V) use the Mathematics Laboratory for activity-based maths sessions and participate in structured demonstrations in the science labs under close supervision. The English Language Lab runs daily sessions for primary students. A dedicated discovery-science activity corner is also available for pre-primary learners in the junior block.
