About the Programme

Where Business Thinking Begins

The Commerce stream at Dunes Academy is designed for students who are curious about how economies function, how businesses are built, and how financial decisions shape the world. Grounded in the CBSE curriculum, the programme goes beyond textbooks to develop analytical thinking, data literacy, and communication skills.

Students study Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and Mathematics (or Informatics Practices) in an environment that encourages questions, debate, and real-world application — preparing them for board examinations and the opportunities that follow.

Commerce Stream — Parent & Student Queries

Is Mathematics compulsory in the Commerce stream?
Mathematics is not compulsory. Students may choose either Mathematics (Code 041) or Informatics Practices (Code 065) as their fifth subject alongside the four core Commerce subjects. We recommend Mathematics for students interested in CA, actuarial science, or economics-heavy programmes at university.
Can a student switch from Commerce to Science after Class XI?
Stream changes between Class XI and Class XII are governed by CBSE regulations and are generally not permitted once the academic session begins. We advise students and parents to make a considered choice at the time of admission. Our Admissions team is happy to guide you through this decision.
Does the school prepare Commerce students for CA Foundation?
Yes. The CBSE Accountancy and Mathematics syllabi in Classes XI–XII form a strong foundation for the CA Foundation examination. We also include targeted practice sessions and provide guidance on ICAI registration timelines during the Class XII year.
What resources are available for Commerce students beyond the classroom?
Commerce students have access to the school library (stocked with CBSE reference texts, financial journals, and business newspapers), the Maths Lab for quantitative practice, and the computer lab for Informatics Practices. Boarding students additionally benefit from supervised evening study sessions with faculty support.
What is the admission process for Class XI Commerce?
Admission to Class XI begins with registration — either online through the school website or by submitting an Application Form to the Admissions Office. Applicants must appear for a written assessment and an interaction session with the Principal and Admissions Committee. Successful candidates receive an Official Letter of Admission. Direct admission to Class XII is not permitted as per CBSE regulations.
How is the CBSE assessment structure for Class XII Commerce?
CBSE evaluates students through a combination of Board Examinations (Theory — 80 marks) and Internal Assessments (20 marks) for each subject.
