Academic Calendar

The school year is divided into two terms, with Periodic Tests, Half-Yearly Examinations, and Annual Examinations spaced across the session, alongside Parent-Teacher Meetings after each major assessment. Pre-board examinations for Classes X and XII fall in Term 2, ahead of the CBSE Board Examinations. For the complete calendar with exact dates, visit our Academics page — remember that dates are indicative and subject to revision, so always check the latest notice from the school office or notice board.

Examinations & Grading

Assessment at Dunes Academy varies by stage. Classes I–V follow continuous, activity-based assessment rather than a single high-stakes exam. Classes VI–XII sit periodic tests through the year, plus Half-Yearly and Annual Examinations, with Classes X and XII additionally sitting Pre-Board Examinations before their CBSE Board Exams.

CBSE uses a nine-point grading scale (A1 to E) for Classes IX–XII. For Classes IX and X, subject grades and Cumulative Grade Points appear on the official marksheet. For Classes XI and XII, both percentage marks and grades are reported. The minimum passing mark is 33% in both Theory and Practical, where applicable.

Science subjects at the secondary and senior secondary stages carry a practical component, assessed internally in our labs and recorded as part of the final CBSE grade. Co-curricular activities, sports, and discipline are recorded separately on a five-point letter scale, distinct from academic grades.

Report cards are issued twice a year, after Half-Yearly and Annual Examinations, with Periodic Test results shared directly and discussed at Parent-Teacher Meetings. Students who need extra support after an assessment are placed in structured remedial sessions before the next testing cycle, with subject teachers offering additional doubt-clearing classes and, for boarding students, supervised evening study periods.
